Main Points
Spanish coach Julio Velázquez has never shied away from bold decisions. During his tenure at Levski Sofia last season, he implemented several surprising tactics that left fans and pundits alike scratching their heads. In a recent interview, Velázquez defended his approach, insisting that calculated risks are essential for success. One notable example came against Hapoel Be'er Sheva, where he deployed Brazilian defender Maicon as a midfielder. The move almost backfired when Maicon received a second yellow card, leaving Levski to hold on for a 0-0 draw. However, the result helped them advance. Another instance was the derby against CSKA Sofia, where Velázquez fielded four central defenders to counter CSKA's fast wingers. The strategy nearly paid off, but a late equalizer denied Levski victory. Velázquez also transformed left-back Aldair into a right winger, creating a new attacking threat. While some criticized his methods, he remains confident that his unconventional thinking gives Levski an edge. Article and image source: telegraph.bg
