JOJ Dakar 2026 : Babacar Mbaye et Elisabeth Diatta réussissent leurs premiers combats de lutte de plage

Babacar Mbaye and Elisabeth Diatta secured victories in their opening beach‑wrestling bouts at the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, marking the first time the discipline appears on the Olympic programme. In the men’s under‑60‑kg category, Senegal’s Babacar Mbaye defeated Georgian opponent Davit Mdzevashvili with a score of 5‑1. In the women’s under‑55‑kg division, Elisabeth Diatta outscored Equatorial Guinea’s Xiomara Meza 3‑0, according to a report by Le Soleil. Beach wrestling, a variation of traditional wrestling adapted to sand, is expected to add a new medal opportunity for Senegal, a country that boasts more than 5,000 registered wrestlers in both freestyle and Greco‑Roman styles. The sport’s inclusion in the Youth Olympics has heightened expectations that Senegal could add to its medal tally. The first beach‑wrestling contests in Olympic history took place at Saly Beach West on 7 and 8 November. The Dakar Youth Olympic Games run from 31 October to 13 November. Senegal has entered eight young wrestlers, one in each weight category. In the boys’ division, Ibrahima Sarr competes in the under‑70‑kg class, while Mery Manga represents the girls in the under‑65‑kg category.
