Minister within the Housing Ministry, Vanessa Benn, has hailed the Iwokrama International Centre for Rain Forest Conservation and Development as a ‘valued asset’ as it marks 30 years since the Iwokrama Act.
In a video message shared on Iwokrama’s Facebook page, Benn highlighted the centre’s contributions to national and international rainforest conservation initiatives. She described it as a cornerstone of Guyana’s environmental journey.
The Iwokrama Act, passed three decades ago, established the centre in the heart of Guyana’s rainforest. It has since become a world-renowned research and conservation hub.
Benn’s remarks come during ongoing celebrations of the anniversary, underscoring the government’s recognition of Iwokrama’s role in sustainable development and climate action.
