The Indian Navy is set to commission Malvan, the second of the Mahe-class Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC), on July 22. The Ministry of Defence announced that the ceremony will be presided over by Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, Chief of the Air Staff, with Vice Admiral Sanjay Vatsayan, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Naval Command, also in attendance.
Built at Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) in Kochi, Malvan epitomises India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) vision in modern naval shipbuilding. With over 80 per cent indigenous content, the warship demonstrates India’s growing expertise in warship design, construction, and integration.
Described as compact yet formidable, the ship is designed for agility, precision, and endurance in shallow waters. The commissioning marks the continued induction of a new generation of indigenous shallow-water warriors, reflecting India’s strategic focus on enhancing its naval capabilities in littoral regions.
