India has summoned Russia’s Charge d’Affaires in New Delhi to protest a missile strike on a cargo vessel that killed four Indian nationals off the coast of Ukraine. The attack on the MV Golden Leo, a grain carrier sailing from Odesa, occurred on July 19, 2026. The Indian Foreign Ministry said the targeting of commercial ships was unacceptable and threatened international maritime security. Russia’s envoy Vladimir Ladanov was called in to receive a strong protest. Officials confirmed that four Indian crew members died in the attack and another is seriously injured.
