**Yle Celebrates 100 Years of Broadcasting**
*Helsinki, Finland –* The Finnish public‑service broadcaster Yle marked its centenary on Saturday, 9 September 2024, with a series of live concerts broadcast across the country. The celebrations were open to all Finns, who could tune in via television or online streaming.
Yle was founded on 9 September 1926, the same day that its first radio broadcast was transmitted. The inaugural program was presented by Alexis af Enehjelm, one of the early “hallåor” – a now‑obsolete profession of radio announcers. Yle discontinued the use of hallåor in radio in 2012 and in television in 2016.
The anniversary program featured concerts aimed at both children and adults, reflecting Yle’s long history of catering to a broad audience. The broadcasts were available nationwide, inviting viewers and listeners to join in the celebration of a century of public‑service media in Finland.
