**OTTAWA** — The federal government has appointed former investment banker and public servant Evan Siddall as the inaugural chair of the board of directors for Build Canada Homes, its affordable housing agency.
Siddall served as the CEO of the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp. (CMHC) from late 2013 to 2021, during which he assisted in developing the Liberal government’s national housing strategy.
Most recently, Siddall was vice-chair at BMO Capital Markets. His career also includes leading Alberta’s AIMCo pension fund manager, as well as holding positions at Goldman Sachs and Irving Oil. Additionally, he served for several years as a special adviser to Mark Carney during Carney’s tenure as governor of the Bank of Canada.
The Liberal government launched Build Canada Homes nearly a year ago. In June, the agency transitioned into a Crown corporation, requiring governance by an independent board of directors.
According to a federal news release, Siddall will exercise the board’s powers unilaterally until a formal process to appoint at least eight directors is completed.
