Flera 14-åringar häktade efter historisk lagändring

The change to Sweden’s criminal‑law age took effect on 10 September, allowing 14‑year‑olds to be deprived of liberty, charged and sentenced for offences that carry a minimum prison term of four years. The law also covers attempts, preparations and the “stamping” of such crimes. Shortly after the amendment, several 14‑year‑olds have been detained. Investigations are underway in cases that include a murder in Älvsjö, an attempted murder in Strängnäs, and alleged murder plots in Linköping and Gävle. The new legal framework has therefore enabled authorities to pursue serious criminal charges against minors who were previously beyond the reach of the criminal justice system.
