Fano Claims Capture of More Than 150 Ethiopian Soldiers in Amhara Clashes

On September 8, the Fano militia in Ethiopia’s Amhara region announced that it had captured more than 150 soldiers of the Ethiopian National Defence Force (ENDF) during heavy fighting in the Wadla-Delanta-Dawunt area.

According to pro‑Fano sources, the militia launched attacks on government positions, inflicted significant losses on federal forces and reportedly destroyed a military brigade. The same sources claimed that the captured soldiers were taken prisoner and that some government units withdrew from portions of the battlefield.

The clashes are part of an ongoing conflict between Fano fighters and Ethiopian government forces in Amhara, where armed violence has persisted despite repeated attempts by the federal government to restore security in the region.

The Fano claims have not been independently verified, and the Ethiopian government and the ENDF have not issued any statements confirming the reported casualties, destruction of the brigade, or the capture of soldiers.

Fano’s statements remain unconfirmed by official Ethiopian sources.
