A family in Nepal survived a terrifying flood after the house they were sheltering inside remained standing as powerful muddy waters swept through the surrounding area.
Dramatic footage circulating on social media shows several people gathered on the balcony of the turquoise two-storey house as floodwaters rage around the property. Nearby structures appear heavily damaged as water, mud and debris move through the community.
Despite the force of the flooding, the family’s home remained standing, and those inside reportedly survived the ordeal.
The remarkable footage quickly attracted attention online, with many viewers focusing on the apparent strength of the building. Some jokingly suggested that the contractor responsible for constructing the house deserved the “Nepal Ratna” award because of how well the structure withstood the flood.
There is, however, no indication that any such award has actually been given, and the comments appear to be humorous praise circulating on social media.
The exact construction features that allowed the house to withstand the flooding have also not been independently established. Without an engineering assessment, it cannot be confirmed whether its survival resulted from its construction, foundation, location, the movement of the floodwaters, or a combination of factors.
What is clear from the widely circulated footage is that the house remained standing during an extremely dangerous situation, providing shelter for the family as destructive floodwaters moved around them.
