**Ethiopia Reports Economic Progress and Focus on Domestic Production**
**ADDIS ABABA** — Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh stated that Ethiopia is achieving significant economic results through a strategy focused on comprehensive transformation, increased productivity, and the expansion of domestic production.
The Deputy Prime Minister made these remarks during an event marking the first day of Pagume, the 13th month of the Ethiopian calendar, which was designated as the “Day of Breakthrough.” The event was attended by senior government officials, private sector stakeholders, and representatives from partner organizations.
According to Tiruneh, recent macroeconomic reforms and the modernization of the financial sector have strengthened the foundation of the national economy. He highlighted that the government’s current agenda is centered on shifting the country away from import dependency toward a model capable of meeting domestic demand and competing in international markets.
Key areas of progress cited by the Deputy Prime Minister include:
* **Agriculture:** Tiruneh noted advancements in food sovereignty, attributed to the adoption of modern farming practices, cluster farming, and the use of improved seeds. He reported increased production levels for meat, rice, maize, and milk.
* **Manufacturing:** The “Made in Ethiopia” (*Ethiopia Tamrt*) movement and the development of industrial parks were identified as primary drivers for substituting imported goods with locally manufactured products.
* **Mining:** The government is focusing on the processing of natural resources into higher-value products to bolster export potential.
* **Public Administration:** Efforts to digitize government services, including electronic filing and payment systems in revenue collection and customs, are intended to improve tax compliance, increase efficiency, and reduce corruption.
Tiruneh emphasized that the government’s strategy prioritizes tangible production, stating that projects failing to create value represent a misuse of resources. He called for continued commitment from citizens and development partners to sustain the country’s economic trajectory.
Ethiopia’s ongoing reform program includes structural changes to the foreign exchange market, monetary policy, and public finance, aimed at fostering a more competitive economy and attracting increased investment. Agriculture remains a central pillar of this reform agenda as the country seeks to expand its export capacity and ensure food security.
