En Côte d’Ivoire, le biama fait danser toute la jeunesse

Côte d’Ivoire’s Youth Dance to the Rhythm of Biama

In Côte d’Ivoire, a new musical and choreographic genre has taken the youth by storm. Born just five years ago in Yopougon, a commune in Abidjan known for being the poorest yet most festive, biama has become a sensation among young Ivorians.

Biama is characterized by its fast-paced rhythm, which is quicker than the traditional coupé-décalé. While it borrows many elements from its predecessor, biama differs in its accessibility and the settings in which it is performed. Unlike coupé-décalé, which is often associated with upscale nightclubs, biama is danced in the streets and on social media, making it a popular choice among young people.

As a result, biama has become a staple of youth culture in Côte d’Ivoire, with its energetic beats and dance moves captivating the nation’s young population.
