Trinidad and Tobago designer Ecliff Elie was the man behind Yung Bredda’s Caribbean Music Awards look, creating a bespoke outfit that combined formal tailoring with the soca artiste’s urban style, personality and faith. Behind-the-scenes footage captured Yung Bredda visiting Elie for his fitting ahead of the awards, with both men discussing the design, construction and personal details incorporated into the finished piece. Yung Bredda was full of praise for Elie, describing him as among the best in Trinidad and Tobago and making it clear why he chose the designer for one of the biggest nights on the Caribbean entertainment calendar. “Awards, Ecliff. Graduation, Ecliff. Wedding, Ecliff,” Yung Bredda said while admiring the work. The artiste also gave viewers a closer look at some of the meaning behind his outfit. Yung Bredda highlighted the words “I am that I am” incorporated into the design and explained that the message reflected his faith and belief in God’s supremacy. “That means God will always be the supreme,” Yung Bredda explained. “Got nothing bigger than he, nothing could overthrow the Father.” He also pointed to another personalised numerical detail connected to when the idea for the outfit was created. Elie, meanwhile, explained that preparations began as soon as he learnt the Caribbean Music Awards would be hosted in Trinidad and Tobago. The designer anticipated that artistes would be looking for outfits for the occasion, and according to Elie, Yung Bredda’s management team was among the first to contact him. “Once we had him, I got the opportunity for him to express his personal style, what he wants,” Elie said. Despite preparing for a formal awards ceremony, Yung Bredda wanted to ensure the outfit did not take away from the image his fans already knew. “I still put in that urban kinda…” the artiste said during the fitting, with Elie agreeing with the direction. Elie said the process involved going through the colours, design and overall concept to arrive at the final look. The fitting also demonstrated that bespoke tailoring was not only about appearance. Elie showed Yung Bredda how the outfit was designed so that a belt was unnecessary and explained how the fit could be loosened slightly if he needed additional room during the night. “Always be comfortable,” Elie told him. Yung Bredda went into the Caribbean Music Awards as a multiple nominee, saying during the fitting that he had received four nominations. But the story did not end with the fitting or the nominations. Yung Bredda went on to win Soca Song of the Year for “The Greatest Bend Over” at the 2026 Caribbean Music Awards. It meant the Ecliff Elie creation was ultimately worn by an award winner on the night, bringing Trinidad and Tobago music and fashion together on the Caribbean stage.
