Driver Charged Over Fatal Sydney Bus Crash That Killed Elderly Passenger

A 52-year-old man will face court in September over a multi-vehicle crash in Sydney’s northwest that claimed the life of an elderly passenger. Emergency services were called to the intersection of Balmoral Road and T-Way in Bella Vista just after 12:30 pm on Sunday, May 17, following reports of a collision involving a Nissan sedan and a bus. Police and paramedics arrived to find both drivers and two passengers trapped in the wreckage. Fire crews freed the occupants, who were all treated at the scene for injuries. The bus driver, a 62-year-old man, was taken to hospital in stable condition, while the sedan’s driver and his two passengers, aged 20 and 87, were taken to hospital with minor injuries. Tragically, police were informed later that evening that the 87-year-old male passenger had died. Following an extensive investigation by the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command, officers attended a property in Colebee on Tuesday evening and issued a court notice to the 52-year-old driver. He has since been charged with negligent driving occasioning death and causing bodily harm by misconduct while in charge of a motor vehicle. The man was granted bail and is scheduled to appear before Parramatta Local Court on Thursday, September 3.
