**DayOne Data Centers and Tenaga Nasional’s Power‑Generation Unit to Study Up to 1.5 GW On‑Site Power for New Selangor Data Centre**
*KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – 1 September 2026* – DayOne Data Centers Limited, a Singapore‑based digital‑infrastructure provider, announced a partnership with TNB Power Generation Sdn. Bhd. (TNB GenCo), the wholly‑owned power‑generation subsidiary of Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), to explore a dedicated on‑site power‑generation solution of up to 1.5 gigawatts (GW) for a new data‑centre development in Selangor, within the Greater Kuala Lumpur region.
The collaboration, formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding signed on 7 August in Kuala Lumpur, was witnessed by DayOne’s chief executive officer Jamie Khoo, general manager for Malaysia Jimmy Yan, and TNB’s president and chief executive officer Datuk Ir. Ts. Shamsul Ahmad, together with TNB GenCo managing director Dato’ Shahrir Abdul Latiff.
In a statement, Jamie Khoo said that the project “is designed to add new capacity and enhance system flexibility that supports our growth while contributing to Malaysia’s energy resilience and long‑term sustainability.” Shamsul Ahmad added that TNB is committed to “ensuring Malaysia’s growing digital economy is underscored by reliable, secure and sustainable electricity infrastructure” and that responsible planning is essential to accommodate new demand while maintaining grid reliability.
The proposed solution would combine on‑site generation with a battery energy storage system (BESS) integrated directly into the data‑centre infrastructure. Both parties indicated that the final capacity, configuration and implementation model will be determined after feasibility studies, definitive agreements and the receipt of any required regulatory approvals.
The initiative builds on an existing partnership that includes collaboration on DayOne’s campuses in Johor and participation in Malaysia’s national green‑energy programmes, such as the Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme (CRESS) and the Green Electricity Tariff (GET). DayOne’s first Malaysian campus, Nusajaya Tech Park, opened in 2023, followed by Kempas Tech Park in 2025, both located in Johor. The Selangor development marks the company’s continued expansion in the Greater Kuala Lumpur area, a key hub for connectivity and talent.
DayOne, which was established in 2022, has secured more than 2 GW of bookings globally and projects cumulative investment in Malaysia to exceed RM28 billion by the end of 2026. The company says the expansion aligns with Malaysia’s National Energy Transition Roadmap, aiming to improve grid security, promote renewable and lower‑carbon energy solutions, and support the country’s ambition to become a regional centre for artificial intelligence and the digital economy.
