A violent confrontation along Cumuto Road in Wallerfield turned deadly on Sunday after a man was allegedly stabbed during a street brawl and later died at hospital. The deceased has been identified as Dean Sanchez of Cumuto Village.
According to preliminary reports, Sanchez became involved in an altercation with several individuals. During the confrontation, he was allegedly stabbed once in the chest. Videos circulating on social media appear to show several men engaged in a violent fight in the middle of the roadway before the confrontation spills into nearby bushes.
Another video, recorded shortly afterwards, appears to show Sanchez lying on the road with a serious chest wound as bystanders desperately attempt to stop the bleeding while calling for emergency assistance. One of the circulating videos also appears to show a man folding what looks like a flick knife after the confrontation.
The authenticity of the footage and its connection to the incident have not been officially confirmed by police. Sanchez was rushed to hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.
Up to the time of publication, no arrests had been announced. Police are continuing investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.
