Colonel Patrick Rakotomamonjy : polémique autour de son état de santé à Tsiafahy

**Concerns Raised Over Health and Detention Conditions of Colonel Patrick Rakotomamonjy**

The health and detention conditions of Colonel Patrick Rakotomamonjy, currently held at the Tsiafahy high-security prison, have become the subject of public concern.

Dr. Minohasina, the colonel’s wife, released a video statement expressing alarm regarding her husband’s well-being. She reported that she has been denied visitation rights since August 23, a period exceeding two weeks. While she speculated that the colonel might have been placed in solitary confinement, she noted that this remains an unconfirmed possibility used to explain the lack of access.

Regarding his medical condition, Dr. Minohasina stated that the colonel is suffering from chest and back pain, as well as respiratory difficulties. She has requested his transfer to the Soavinandriana Military Hospital for medical evaluation and treatment. To date, no independent medical report has been released to verify the severity of his health status.

Dr. Minohasina has also called upon legal experts to review the conditions of her husband’s detention to determine if they align with legal standards and the fundamental rights of incarcerated individuals. She indicated that a high-ranking official within the Ministry of Justice is responsible for the current restrictions on visitation.

The case has drawn attention to the Ministry of Justice, led by Fanirisoa Ernaivo. Local media reports have noted the historical political context between the two figures, as both were previously aligned in opposition to the former regime.

Colonel Rakotomamonjy, who formerly served as the director of the Bureau of Grievances under the Presidency of the Refondation, was detained following accusations that, according to Minister Ernaivo in April, included concerns regarding a potential flight risk.

Supporters of the colonel characterize him as a patriot who has taken a firm stance against corruption and the influence of certain foreign economic operators. They allege that his legal challenges are politically motivated attempts to silence him. These claims remain unverified allegations.

As of now, the Ministry of Justice has not provided a public response to the specific concerns raised by Dr. Minohasina regarding the colonel’s health or the denial of visitation.
