Co Tyrone: Man arrested in relation to sexual offences in Republic of Ireland to appear before Extradition Court

A 70-year-old man from County Tyrone was arrested by the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) on Thursday, September 17, in connection with alleged sexual offences committed in the Republic of Ireland.

The man is wanted to stand trial for charges including rape, sexual assault, and false imprisonment, which reportedly occurred in Galway in 2022. He was detained in the Dungannon area by officers from the PSNI’s Local Policing Team acting on an Irish extradition warrant.

The individual is scheduled to appear before the Laganside Extradition Court on Friday, September 18.

Sergeant Davey of the PSNI’s International Policing Unit stated that the arrest demonstrates the ongoing cooperation between the PSNI and An Garda Siochana in locating fugitives. Sergeant Davey added that Northern Ireland is not a safe haven for individuals attempting to avoid arrest and that the police service remains committed to pursuing those seeking to delay or deny justice to victims.
