A new artificial intelligence model from Chinese startup Moonshot has stunned the US technology industry with capabilities that rival leading systems from OpenAI and Anthropic. Despite US export controls on advanced chips, Moonshot’s model costs half as much as OpenAI’s GPT-5.6 Sol to use, posing revenue challenges for US firms. However, some analysts, like Patrick Moorhead, describe the reaction as an overreaction similar to the DeepSeek launch.
