CHAP Agro Makes History as One of First Eight Certified by Liberia’s New Seed Agency

Liberia’s agriculture sector reached a new milestone as the Community of Hope Agriculture Project (CHAP) Agro Inc. became one of the first eight Liberian-owned companies to receive official certification from the newly established Seed Development and Certification Agency (SDCA). The certification, presented recently, marks a critical step toward strengthening local seed production and achieving agricultural self-sufficiency.

According to officials, the SDCA was created to regulate and certify seed producers, ensuring high-quality seeds that meet national standards. This initiative aims to reduce Liberia’s heavy dependence on imported seeds, which has been a barrier to food security and rural development.

CHAP Agro, known for its work in sustainable agriculture and community empowerment, now joins a select group of certified seed producers. The company plans to expand its operations and supply certified seeds to farmers across the country.

Agricultural experts have praised the move, saying it could boost crop yields and farmer incomes while building resilience against global supply chain disruptions. The certification process involved rigorous inspections and quality tests.

The SDCA is expected to certify more companies in the coming months, further expanding the network of reliable seed producers in Liberia.
