CBC director is new head of CySEC

George Karatzias has been appointed as the new chairman of the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC), succeeding George Teocharides who will step down after five years in the role.

Karatzias previously served as vice chairman of CySEC before moving to the Central Bank of Cyprus. His appointment is expected to be formally announced following the Council of Ministers meeting scheduled for Wednesday.

During his five-year tenure, Teocharides guided CySEC without any market disruptions and helped maintain Cyprus’s reputation as a reliable European financial services hub. Prior to his role at CySEC, Teocharides was a finance professor at the former Cyprus Institute of International Management (CIIM).

The announcement was reported by the Financial Mirror.
