A 37-year-old canter driver was killed after being struck by an unidentified speeding vehicle on National Highway 44 near Devanahalli on Thursday night. The victim, Jayaprakash, a native of Ramanagara, was crossing the road with a colleague when the accident occurred.

According to police, Jayaprakash worked as a driver for a private transport firm in Bidadi. He and his colleague Narayana Taravarappa had delivered car equipment to a KIA manufacturing unit in Penukonda, Andhra Pradesh, earlier that day. After returning, they parked their canter lorry near Rani Cross on NH-44 around 7 pm to rest.

Around 9 pm, the two stepped out to cross the highway near Limra Agencies to reach a local eatery for dinner. As Jayaprakash crossed, a vehicle traveling from Bengaluru toward Chikkaballapur rammed into him and fled. He suffered severe head and bodily injuries. Bystanders rushed him to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
