Business is booming in Virginia’s “data centre alley”, which is generating over a billion dollars’ tax revenue – but locals say enough is enough.

Loudoun County, Virginia, has become a global hub for data centers, a region frequently referred to as Data Centre Alley. The industry currently generates more than one billion dollars in annual tax revenue for the local government, significantly bolstering the area’s fiscal resources.

Despite the economic benefits, the rapid expansion of these facilities has prompted pushback from local residents. Community members have expressed growing concerns regarding the scale of the development, leading to calls for a halt to further construction in the region.
