The 9th China International Import Expo (CIE) was held in Shanghai from 5 to 10 November. For the ninth consecutive year, the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) participated, setting up a pavilion themed “Only in Hong Kong.” The pavilion was accompanied by representatives from Hong Kong’s tourism, hotel, theme‑park and airline sectors, who promoted the city’s unique appeal to exhibitors, buyers and visitors from around the world. Chief Executive John Lee visited the HKTB pavilion on the afternoon of 5 November. He toured the displays and met with HKTB officials to learn about the board’s latest promotion work and the current state of Hong Kong’s tourism industry. “CIE is a national annual economic and trade event and an important platform for promoting Hong Kong’s advantages to mainland China and the international market,” said HKTB Secretary General Liu Zhenhan. “We are honoured to exhibit for the ninth year and to showcase the unique tourism appeal of Hong Kong—its multiculturalism, gastronomy, events, city exploration and authentic experiences—under the theme ‘Only in Hong Kong.’ I also thank Chief Executive Lee for his visit and support for the tourism sector, and I appreciate the continued partnership with the industry.” The pavilion featured three main zones. A large LED screen, multimedia interactive installations and an immersive experience space highlighted Hong Kong’s iconic cityscapes, distinctive lifestyle culture and world‑class events. The “Deep Dive into Hong Kong” zone focused on the HKTB’s promoted attractions, including “Old Central,” a culinary guide curated by top chefs under the “Hong Kong Good Taste” brand, a film‑culture series called “Hong Kong Live‑Action Scenes,” and community‑based tourism experiences. A separate area showcased the Guangdong‑Hong Kong‑Macao Greater Bay Area, using digital interaction to illustrate Hong Kong’s role as a multi‑stop travel hub and to introduce the region’s diverse tourism resources. The pavilion also introduced a photo‑check‑in robot for the first time. The robot interacted with visitors, taking photos that incorporated Hong Kong‑specific motifs. The installation demonstrated how artificial intelligence and big data can be used to promote smart tourism and enhance visitor experience.
