**One killed, two injured in mass beating over suspected robbery in Jamalpur**
A man was killed and two others were injured in a mass beating by local residents who suspected them of being robbers in Islampur upazila of Jamalpur on Saturday morning.
The incident took place in theulia area of Chinaduli union.
The deceased was identified as Nur Mohammad, 50, a resident of Kunderpara village under Kamarjani union in Gaibandha Sadar upazila. The injured are Jahangir, 40, from Batikamari area of Gaibandha, and Rafiqul, 35, from Borkhal village of Dewanganj upazila.
According to local sources and police, the three men went to the Barul area of Belgachha union in Islampur upazila via the Jamuna River on a small boat. Local fishermen suspected them of being robbers and chased them. After fleeing the chase, the men reached the Guthail area, where residents also pursued them. Finally, locals caught the three individuals in the Ulia area and beat them, resulting in Nur Mohammad’s death at the scene.
Upon receiving the news, police went to the site at noon, recovered Nur Mohammad’s body, and sent it to the morgue at Jamalpur General Hospital for an autopsy. The two injured men were admitted to the Islampur Upazila Health Complex.
Islampur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mizanur Rahman stated that no formal complaint had been filed regarding the incident as of yet, adding that an investigation will be conducted and legal action will be taken.
