A Chittagong Customs House official reported being robbed at knifepoint on Sunday morning in the Kadamtali bus stand area of Chittagong. The victim, System Analyst Md. Hasan-uz-Zaman Khan, stated that he was waiting for an auto-rickshaw after arriving by train from Dhaka when two to three individuals threatened him with sharp weapons and seized his government-issued laptop, mobile phone, wallet, and identification documents.
Following the incident, Khan attempted to file a formal robbery case at the Kotwali Police Station. However, police declined to register a case and instead recorded the incident as a general diary entry regarding lost property.
Customs officials noted that the stolen government laptop contains the ASYCUDA software system, which includes sensitive passwords and official data. When questioned regarding the decision to file a general diary rather than a robbery case, Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abu Zayed Md. Nazmun Nur stated that he would look into the matter and confirmed that police are currently conducting an operation to recover the stolen items.
This incident follows a separate robbery reported on Saturday morning in the Satish Babu Lane area near the same police station. In that case, a rickshaw passenger was robbed at knifepoint, an event captured on video and circulated on social media. Police have since arrested one of the three suspects involved in that robbery and are searching for the remaining two.
