**Angolan President Sends Condolences to Cabo Verde After Tragic Road Accident**
Luanda, Angola – President João Lourenço sent a message of condolence to Cabo Verdean President José Maria Neves on Sunday following a fatal road accident on Fogo Island that claimed 25 lives, most of them children and adolescents.
The accident occurred on Saturday when a coach carrying children, adolescents and young people left the road and plunged into a ravine approximately 30 metres deep in a mountainous, difficult‑to‑access area. The driver and 24 passengers were killed, and several others were injured, some seriously. A tyre blowout has been cited as a possible factor, though the cause is still under investigation.
In his message, Lourenço expressed Angola’s deepest condolences to the government and people of Cabo Verde and urged President Neves to convey Angola’s solidarity to the bereaved families and the wider Cabo Verdean society during this period of grief and mourning. He reaffirmed Angola’s friendship and sympathy toward Cabo Verde in the wake of the tragedy.
Following the accident, the Cabo Verdean government declared two days of national mourning in memory of the victims.
