ANEP propone que el cambio de la jornada laboral sea opcional: trabajadores también plantean condiciones y garantías

On 19 September 2026, the discussion over a potential modernization of the working day in El Salvador entered a new phase after the Asociación Nacional de la Empresa Privada (ANEP) submitted a proposal to the authorities.

ANEP’s proposal calls for any changes to the standard work schedule to be optional and tailored to the specific characteristics of each economic sector. The association argues that a one‑size‑fits‑all approach would not reflect the diverse needs of the country’s private businesses.

In response, workers’ representatives have also presented a set of conditions and guarantees they believe should accompany any adjustment to the working day. These include protections for job security, fair compensation, and safeguards against potential negative impacts on employee well‑being.

The proposals were formally presented to the relevant governmental bodies overseeing labor policy, marking a significant step in the ongoing debate over how best to balance flexibility for employers with protections for employees.
