Andy Burnham Appointed UK Prime Minister After King Charles Ceremony

In a historic transition of power, King Charles III on Monday appointed Andy Burnham as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, following the resignation of Keir Starmer. The ceremony at Buckingham Palace marked the start of Burnham’s tenure, with the monarch officially asking him to form the next government.

Burnham, in his first address after the appointment, vowed to implement a 10-year plan to restore stability in the country. “Britain needs to show the world that we can regain our stability once again,” he said, emphasizing measures to tackle the cost-of-living crisis, provide mental health support for youth, and build more council homes.

He also pledged to end rough sleeping as his first instruction, signaling a focus on social welfare. The new Prime Minister faces immediate challenges, including selecting his cabinet and addressing economic pressures from underperforming utility companies and taxation debates.

Internationally, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated Burnham on his appointment, expressing a desire to further strengthen bilateral cooperation. The change in UK leadership is expected to influence trade, security, and diplomatic relations between the two nations.
