WHAT KIND OF MAN SETS A WOMAN ON FIRE?

A 32-year-old woman is recovering from burns to her face, neck, chest, back and left arm after her boyfriend allegedly set her on fire during an argument in Arima.

According to police reports, the incident occurred around 3 am on Friday, November 6, 2026.

The woman’s sister-in-law was awakened by cries for help. When she opened her door, she found the woman crying and seeking refuge.

The victim entered the house and sat on a bedroom bed. Shortly afterwards, her boyfriend reportedly arrived, and another argument erupted.

Police allege that the man picked up a lighted lamp, poured its contents on the woman and set her ablaze.

The relative managed to extinguish the flames before fleeing the house.

The injured woman was rushed by ambulance to the Arima Health Facility, where she was treated and listed in stable condition.

The suspect fled and remained at large when the police report was made. Investigators processed the scene, and the matter was referred to the Special Victims Unit.

HOW MANY MORE WOMEN MUST SUFFER?

What kind of men are we producing in Trinidad and Tobago? Seriously!

An argument? A disagreement? A relationship dispute?

Since when does any of that justify setting another human being on fire?

And this is not the first time our country has faced such horrifying allegations.

In 2019, police officer Kelly-Ann Humphrey was set on fire during an argument with her boyfriend in El Socorro.

In 2024, Afiya Adams, 41, died after being set on fire during a domestic dispute in Freeport.

In January 2026, a San Fernando woman suffered second-degree burns after her former boyfriend allegedly set her on fire.

Now, in November 2026, another woman is recovering from burns following another alleged domestic attack.

Different women. Different years. The same horrifying violence.

What level of cruelty drives someone to inflict unimaginable suffering on a person they supposedly love?

This is not love. This is not passion. This is brutality.

Men must hold other men accountable. Families must stop protecting abusers. Communities must stop looking away. And our justice system must ensure that those responsible are held accountable.

Violence against women and men is unacceptable. No disagreement, rejection or broken relationship gives anyone the right to destroy another person’s life.

An argument should never become a death sentence. A broken relationship should never leave someone fighting for life.

We need more than outrage. We need prevention, protection, accountability and justice.
