El fútbol despide a Jesús de Miguel con un emotivo homenaje multitudinario en el Heliodoro

On Saturday, the Heliodoro Rodríguez López stadium in Santa Cruz de Tenerife hosted a tribute to former CD Tenerife striker Jesús de Miguel, who died after a severe impact during a match against Andorra. The ceremony brought together teammates, club officials, former players, representatives from Spanish clubs and local authorities to honour the player. Among the attendees were Emilio Butragueño (Real Madrid), Rafael Gordillo (Betis), Andoni Goikoetxea (Athletic Club) and Marcos Senna (Villarreal). The president of the Spanish Players’ Association, David Aganzo, and a delegation from UD Las Palmas led by its president Miguel Ángel Ramírez also attended. The event began with a minute of silence, followed by a standing ovation and chants from the crowd. Captain Enric Gallego spoke in tears, describing De Miguel as “simple, discreet, close and committed to the team.” He added that the player would always remain part of the “blanquiazul” family and offered support to De Miguel’s wife María, daughter Carla and parents, assuring them they would not be alone. Tenerife president Felipe Miñambres highlighted the striker’s humility and his ability to contribute without seeking the spotlight. “There will be no more goals, but there will be an eternal memory,” he said. Club owner Rayco García called the incident a “true tragedy” and thanked the worldwide outpouring of solidarity. He also pledged that the club and the local community would support the player’s daughter until she reaches adulthood. The tribute concluded with a video montage of messages of love and solidarity, followed by a religious ceremony led by Bishop Eloy Santiago. Jesús de Miguel had joined CD Tenerife in July 2025 and was remembered by a passionate crowd that turned the stadium into a final homage to his memory.
