A 23-year-old Laventille man was placed on a 12-month bond to keep the peace after pleading guilty to cleaning a vehicle on a public roadway and wilfully obstructing the roadway, the Trinidad Express reported. Atkinson Amoroso appeared before San Fernando Senior Magistrate Armina Deonarinesingh on charges laid by Constable Warrick-Hamilton. If he defaults on the bond, he will serve three days’ simple imprisonment. According to the police account reported by the Express, Warrick-Hamilton was on traffic duty with colleagues along the San Fernando Bypass Road near SuperPharm at about 3 p.m. on Wednesday. She saw Amoroso and another person cleaning the windscreen of a red Toyota Yaris Cross. Police said Amoroso obstructed the vehicle when the traffic light turned green, preventing it from moving forward and complying with the signal. He ran when officers approached, but was arrested shortly afterwards. Officers seized his squeegee and bucket. The report said he initially told police he had done nothing wrong, before subsequently entering a guilty plea in court. A second man, Kevon Patrick, 24, of La Romaine, appeared before the same magistrate on the same two charges. Patrick disputed the police account in his case, and a not-guilty plea was entered. Patrick was placed on $1,000 own bail and is due to return to court on December 14. His charges remain contested, while Amoroso’s guilty plea resulted in the peace bond.
