Cuba y China acuerdan impulsar nuevos proyectos en el sector de la biotecnología

Cuba and China signed three agreements to boost pharmaceutical innovation, diagnostic development, and the establishment of a joint biopharmaceutical laboratory during a biotechnology cooperation forum held in Shanghai on Friday. The event brought together business leaders, academics, and industry representatives to forge new partnerships. Mayda Mauri Pérez, president of Cuba’s state-owned BioCubaFarma, highlighted the company’s interest in expanding Chinese participation in investment projects. According to Canal Cubano de Noticias, these projects focus on shifting the energy mix and integrating artificial intelligence into administrative, research, and development processes. BioCubaFarma, which produces high‑technology medicines, equipment, and services, said AI could improve production processes, raise quality standards, and strengthen clinical trial activities. The report noted that more than 30 Cuban‑Chinese projects are in various stages of research and development. Among the new initiatives is a joint research and development center, which will be the eleventh such facility established in China with Cuban involvement. Over recent years, biotechnological cooperation between Havana and Beijing has led to the creation of several joint ventures, laboratories, and research centers dedicated to scientific research projects, according to sectoral institutions. Cuba and China maintain close political and economic ties, with China being one of the island nation’s key allies.
