Greek authorities have arrested a 43-year-old Albanian national, identified as Nikolin Pali, who was wanted for a double murder committed six years ago. The suspect, who had been sentenced to two life terms in absentia, was apprehended during a police raid at an apartment in the Patisia neighborhood of Athens. According to police reports, Pali was found in possession of forged identification documents and was heavily armed. Officers recovered a pistol and two hand grenades at the scene, though the suspect was unable to use them during the arrest. A woman residing with him at the time of the raid was also taken into custody. Greek law enforcement officials have characterized Pali as a dangerous individual and a suspected contract killer. Authorities are currently investigating his potential involvement in other criminal activities that occurred between the 2020 double homicide and his recent arrest. The primary case linked to the suspect is the October 2020 murder of a 43-year-old Ukrainian woman, known as Svetlana or Fotini, and her 42-year-old companion, Ioannis Zonitsas, a pharmacist. The victims were discovered at a residence in the Flambouro area of Corinth. Investigators determined that the victims had been attacked with an axe. Evidence suggested that the perpetrator entered the home using a spare key. The 43-year-old woman sustained fatal injuries to her head and carotid artery, while the 42-year-old man suffered fatal wounds to his head and heart. Following the attack, the assailant reportedly stole the victims’ mobile phones and fled the scene. He is also suspected of stealing and subsequently setting fire to the woman’s vehicle in an attempt to destroy evidence. At the time of the 2020 investigation, police identified the suspect as the woman’s former partner, who had reportedly struggled to accept the end of their relationship. Reports from that period indicated that the suspect had a prior criminal record, including a 2014 arrest for robbery, and had been released from prison in 2017. Greek authorities continue to investigate the suspect’s activities during his six years as a fugitive, as well as his potential links to other unsolved crimes.
