Celtic defeated Beşiktaş 3–2 in the fourth week of the UEFA Europa League, securing a home victory that pleased manager Martin O’Neill. The match, played at Celtic Park, saw the Scottish club win on the road against the Turkish side. O’Neill praised the team’s performance and the contributions of the substitutes. “We showed our level. We demonstrated what we can do in the league and in Europe. From every angle, it was a perfect win,” he said after the game. He added that the squad had created chances throughout the match and executed the game plan he had outlined. “The players did everything I told them. They delivered the football required. It was a perfect performance. After the penalty shoot‑out, I saw that the changes I made had paid off. Overall, I’m very satisfied with the team’s performance,” O’Neill said. O’Neill also highlighted the impact of the bench players. “The players coming off the bench performed their duties exceptionally well. Their character is unquestionable,” he noted. Regarding the team’s focus, O’Neill said the primary objective was to score. “Since joining this team, we have been chasing great performances. Tonight was a tough match. From the first touch, our sole aim was to find the net. We played through passing and possession to create scoring opportunities,” he explained. When asked about giving opportunities to other players, O’Neill remarked, “When you give chances to other players, you can see what they can deliver on the field. In a European match, showing that is special. Of course, there can be disappointments in big European games, but we’re learning from each experience.” Article and image source: Haberler
