Newcastle United lost 0‑2 to Dinamo Zagreb in their opening UEFA Champions League group‑stage match on 6 November 2026. The game, played at Newcastle’s St James’ Park, marked the first defeat for the Premier League club in the competition this season and left them with only one win in their last six matches across all competitions. The first goal came in the 22nd minute when Dinamo’s Stugor delivered a corner that was headed into the net by Berez, giving the visitors a 1‑0 lead. Newcastle’s only response came in the 24th minute when Tommasini (or a similar player) made a crucial save to prevent a second goal. The hosts’ defence, however, failed to hold up, and in the 39th minute Dinamo doubled their advantage when Stugor’s cross found Berez again, who slotted the ball past Newcastle’s goalkeeper. Newcastle’s fans expressed their frustration with the team’s performance, booing at half‑time and again at full‑time. In the second half, Newcastle earned a penalty, but the resulting header by Isidro was ruled offside after a VAR review. The team had several promising chances thereafter but could not find the back of the net. The defeat leaves Newcastle with a record of two wins, one draw and one loss in all competitions, earning seven points and dropping to 11th place in the league table. Dinamo Zagreb finished the match with the same record, sitting in 9th place. Article source: Sing Tao Electronic Daily | Image credit: Sing Tao Electronic Daily
