Kayla McBride fiton çmimin WNBA Cares Community Assist për sezonin 2026

The Minnesota Lynx guard Kayla McBride was named the 2026 WNBA Cares Community Assist Award winner on November 5, 2023, in New York City. The award honors players who demonstrate exceptional commitment to community service, youth empowerment, mental‑health advocacy, and building lasting relationships with local organizations. McBride’s year‑long efforts centered on Minneapolis. She mentored students, visited pediatric patients, and supported programs that help students return to school after illness or injury. A key partnership was with the Washburn Center for Children, where she has worked with children, families, and staff since 2024. By openly discussing her own mental‑health journey, McBride helped reduce stigma and highlighted the importance of early intervention and family‑centered care. “Minnesota has become home for me, and returning to the people, families, and communities across the state is something I deeply care about,” McBride said, according to the WNBA announcement. “Community work for me means consistently showing up and building relationships that go beyond a single event.” In September, McBride mentored eight middle‑school girls from the Girl Scouts and the Hallie Q. Brown and Sabathani community centers. Activities focused on self‑esteem, friendship, and self‑expression. She also visited pediatric patients and their families at Mayo Clinic Children’s, staying well beyond the scheduled visit, and attended a Washburn Center event with the Lynx. Earlier in the summer, McBride organized a school‑return fundraiser with a seventh‑grade student in partnership with Target, raising $1,000 for school supplies. She welcomed a 12‑year‑old Special Olympics Minnesota participant into the Jr. Lynx Dream Team and shared leadership lessons at the Lynx Changemakers Summit. Sherri Green, director of Critical Services at Sabathani Community Center, praised the program’s impact, noting that the girls felt “super intimate, as if they were at home.” Carley Knox, president of Lynx business operations, added that community impact is “not something she does; it is who she is.” A committee appointed by WNBA and NBA leaders selected McBride for the award. In recognition of her service, the WNBA will donate $20,000 in total—$10,000 each to two organizations chosen by McBride: Play Your Way! MN, which provides sports opportunities for children, and Girl Scouts River Valleys, which supports girls through friendship, play, and exploration.
