Mesta legger ned betongavdelingen

Mesta, Norway’s largest operator in road maintenance, road electrics and rail, announced in a press release that it will lay off 40 employees from its Anlegg and special production department. Director of Construction and Special Production, Oddmund Lefdal, said the decision was “a heavy one” and that it was difficult to have to let go of so many skilled workers. “We are working to re‑assign as many of them as possible to other tasks within the company,” Lefdal added. He also noted that the company would reach out to other firms that might need qualified labour. The affected group includes project and construction managers, skilled workers and apprentices. Mesta stressed that it intends to ensure all apprentices complete their training. The layoffs come amid market changes that have reduced work and the order book for 2027, the company said. Frode Wilhelmsen, project manager for Construction and Special Production, said Mesta will continue to be a strong player in the concrete sector. “We have significant concrete expertise in the company and will continue to deliver a wide range of concrete‑related services across many of our projects and business areas,” Wilhelmsen said.
