President Luis Abinader delivered 97 apartments in the first phase of Residencial Las Acacias I, located in the El Tamarindo sector of Santo Domingo Este, on Saturday. The hand‑over ceremony was attended by the governor of Santo Domingo, Lucrecia Santana, the mayor of Santo Domingo Este, Dio Astacio, and other local officials. The residential complex, part of the government’s “Mi Vivienda” program, is being built through the Fonvivienda trust and will ultimately contain 1,264 units. The project is expected to provide homes for more than 388 families and is intended to help reduce the country’s housing deficit. The total investment is approximately RD$321 million, of which RD$204 million comes from private sector contributions and RD$117 million from public subsidies. Housing Minister Jean Luis Rodríguez said the delivery of the first 97 apartments marks a significant step in the project. “This hand‑over is part of President Abinader’s efforts to reduce the housing deficit and to make dignified homes accessible to Dominican families,” he explained. Miguel Ramos, vice‑president of Business Operations at Banco de Reservas, noted that the bank financed the apartments with more than RD$200 million at a fixed interest rate of 8 % per year for seven years. “Providing the keys to 97 families will give them a stable home and a more secure future,” Ramos said. Diego Reyes, a representative of the construction firm DERCO SRL, highlighted the government’s support. “The president’s backing allows more families to acquire their own homes,” Reyes said. The units feature three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room, dining area, kitchen, balcony, laundry area, and a parking space. Some first‑floor apartments also include a terrace and patio. The complex contains green areas and recreational spaces for residents. The ceremony underscored the administration’s commitment to expanding affordable housing and improving living conditions for Dominican families.
