DJ Punz says divisions associated with Trinidad and Tobago’s Six and Seven communities have eased significantly, describing a situation in which people who were previously separated are now partying together and moving freely between areas.
Speaking during an interview in Jamaica, the Trinidadian DJ and producer was asked whether the wider split between the Six and Seven remained a major issue despite the ongoing peace initiative.
Punz responded that it was no longer the same problem, saying people from both sides were now “partying together” and going into different zones.
He stressed that the change extends beyond entertainers, arguing that the deeper divisions were rooted within communities rather than simply among Trinibad artistes.
According to Punz, artistes often represented the communities from which they came, meaning the greater significance of the current development is that community members and area leaders have also been coming together.
He described the situation as genuine peace and acknowledged that the change would have appeared almost unbelievable given the atmosphere in Trinidad just a year earlier.
The comments come as figures within the Trinibad movement continue to promote reconciliation and greater cooperation, with Punz arguing throughout the interview that lasting peace could create opportunities for the music, artistes and communities connected to the genre.
