Caribbean social media personality Orlando Flame has publicly apologised to his followers and, particularly, to children who look up to him after reflecting on his recent behaviour online. In a video posted to Instagram, Flame said he had spent the past couple of days getting himself involved in “a little bit of bacchanal,” particularly through cursing and online confrontations. After watching the videos again, Flame said he was unhappy with how his behaviour appeared and decided he needed to take responsibility. “When I look back at them videos, it don’t be looking good,” he said. “I come in to apologise and I want to fix that.” Flame said he was “deeply sorry” and stressed that he never entered social media with the intention of becoming known for controversy, arguments or confusion. “I don’t want allyuh watching me as this ghetto youth who only on bacchanal and confusion,” he said. He contrasted his recent behaviour with the positive example he said he has been trying to set, particularly for younger followers. Flame noted that he regularly encourages children to respect their parents and said his recent conduct did not reflect that message. He also pointed to community work and other activities he has been involved in, including helping communities with road issues, promoting businesses through advertising and trying to use his platform positively. “I’m genuinely a really nice guy,” Flame said, describing himself as someone trying to make it through hard work and remain positive. Flame also extended his apology to people older than him with whom he has had disagreements, both recently and in the past. He said he had decided to be “the bigger person” rather than continue the conflicts. He acknowledged that the pressures surrounding social media should not be allowed to change the direction in which he was heading. Flame said he is now putting the “bacchanal” and confusion behind him and promised his followers that the behaviour they recently witnessed will stop. He placed particular emphasis on the children who follow him, acknowledging that his actions carry additional responsibility when young people view him as someone to emulate. Flame ended his message by accepting responsibility for his own conduct rather than attempting to justify it. “Right is right, wrong is wrong,” he said, adding that he would take responsibility for his actions and move forward as the bigger person.
