Hong Kong’s Secretary for Housing, Winnie Ho, announced the launch of a drone delivery route at Chung On Estate in Ma On Shan. The initiative is part of a broader government effort to utilize the city’s approximately 200 public housing estates as pilot sites for the low-altitude economy.
During the launch ceremony, attended by Secretary for Transport and Logistics Lam Sai-hung and several Legislative Council members, including Elizabeth Quat and Ip Ngo-tung, a delivery drone successfully transported items from the Hong Kong Science Park across Tolo Harbour to Chung On Estate. The drone carried a delivery box containing coffee, mooncakes, and commemorative gifts from the Transport and Logistics Bureau and the Housing Bureau.
Ho stated that the government aims to transform public housing into innovation and technology incubation bases, aligning with the city’s five-year development plan for science and technology. She noted that future public housing projects will be planned to incorporate various technological initiatives.
According to the Housing Bureau, the integration of low-altitude economy services into daily life is intended to support the development of a smart city while providing residents with increased convenience and service options. During the event, local kindergarten students were invited to participate in the demonstration by receiving the delivered items.
