The King Baudouin Foundation (KBF) has awarded more than 1 million euros to six cycling infrastructure projects in and around the Brussels-Capital Region. The funding, distributed through the Bikes in Brussels Fund, marks the second consecutive year the organization has presented the Bikes in Brussels Awards to recognize sustainable mobility initiatives.
Launched in 2025, the fund aims to promote cycling by highlighting infrastructure projects that are already open to the public. An independent jury selected the recipients based on their ability to improve urban safety, bridge gaps created by existing road and railway infrastructure, and strengthen connectivity between the capital and its surrounding areas.
The six awarded projects include the Fast Cycle Route between Avenue des Communautés and the inner Ring Road, the Dikke Linde Cycling Bridge, and the Fast Cycle Route connecting Brussels, Kortenberg, Bertem, and Leuven. Additional recipients include the Fast Cycle Route Cycling Underpass along the Brussels-Willebroek Canal, the Groenendaal Cycling Tunnel and Eco-Recreation Bridge, and the Saint Bernard Cycling Street located in Saint-Gilles.
According to the foundation, these awards are intended to showcase best practices in cycling infrastructure and encourage further investment in high-quality facilities to support sustainable transportation.
