The body of Adelaide Sithole, wife of the Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church in Zimbabwe, Reverend Simbarashe Sithole, has returned to Zimbabwe for burial. Mrs. Sithole died on 24 August shortly after arriving at Auckland Airport in New Zealand, where she had traveled to attend the 15th World Assembly of the World Federation of Methodist and Uniting Church Women.
Mrs. Sithole served as the president of Ruwadzano Manyano, the church’s women’s fellowship, and the Girls Christian Union. Her death was announced by the church’s General Secretary, Reverend Likhai Molife, who described her as a devout leader.
According to the funeral program, the body arrived at R.G. Mugabe International Airport in Harare on 18 September. A service is scheduled for Saturday, 19 September, at the Marlborough Methodist Church, followed by an overnight vigil at the Presiding Bishop’s residence in Harare.
The final send-off service is set for Sunday, 20 September, at 10:00 a.m. at Winery in Gweru, with burial scheduled for 2:00 p.m. The church expects a large attendance for the proceedings, which conclude a period of mourning that began following her death in New Zealand.
Condolences have been extended to the Sithole family and the Methodist Church in Zimbabwe by various ecumenical partners, including the Africa Methodist Council and the Methodist Church in Kenya, both of which acknowledged Mrs. Sithole’s contributions to the church and her ministry.
