NCIC bans fireworks sales at Divali Nagar despite expected losses

The National Council of Indian Culture has announced that the sale of fireworks will be banned at the 2026 Divali Nagar. NCIC President Dr Surujdeo Mangaroo announced the decision during the official launch of this year’s celebrations. Vendors will not be permitted to sell fireworks anywhere on the NCIC Nagar compound, with the organisation saying it has listened to concerns raised by members of the public. Mangaroo acknowledged that the decision is expected to result in a financial loss for the NCIC but said maintaining safety and order at the venue was more important. The restriction applies specifically to fireworks sales at the Divali Nagar compound and is not a nationwide ban on fireworks. Divali Nagar 2026 is scheduled to run from October 30 to November 7 under the theme, “Viveka – A Discerning Truth in the Age of AI.” Fireworks will no longer be sold at this year’s Divali Nagar. NCIC President Dr Surujdeo Mangaroo says the organisation made the decision after listening to concerns from members of the public. The restriction applies specifically to sales at Divali Nagar and does not represent a nationwide ban on fireworks. This year’s Divali Nagar is scheduled to run from October 30 to November 7.
