Main Points
Romania has emerged as the primary destination for Moldovan rapeseed, accounting for 93 percent of the country’s total exports during the first two months of the 2026/2027 season. According to an analysis by economist Iurie Rija, Moldova exported 191,080 tons of rapeseed between July and August 2026.
While the export volume represents a 16.6 percent decrease compared to the same period in 2025, when 229,080 tons were shipped, the decline was partially offset by rising international prices. The average export price reached 10.36 lei per kilogram, a 15 percent increase over the 8.98 lei per kilogram recorded during the same period last year. This price level marks the highest average for the July-August period in the last four seasons.
Total export revenue for the two-month period reached approximately 1.98 billion lei, a marginal decline of 3.9 percent compared to the 2.06 billion lei generated in the previous year. Despite the favorable pricing, Rija noted that profitability is being challenged by rising logistical costs, including increased road and maritime freight rates, higher fuel prices, and congestion at border crossings.
In terms of logistics, road transport remains the primary method of delivery, accounting for 53 percent of the total volume, followed by maritime transport at 41 percent and rail at 6 percent. Data indicates a shift in export routes, with shipments through the Giurgiulești port increasing significantly, processing approximately 41 percent of total exports. Conversely, exports through the Cahul customs point saw a 34 percent decline between July and August.
Beyond Romania, which received 177,600 tons, other export destinations included Bulgaria with 3.6 percent of the total, followed by Greece and the Czech Republic. Greece offered the highest average price among major destinations at 10.87 lei per kilogram.
The export market is concentrated among a few major players. Four companies—Rusagro-Prim, Orom-Imexpo, Vadalex Grains, and Carvidon-Trade—accounted for 64 percent of the total volume exported during the first two months of the season. Rusagro-Prim led the sector, contributing 27 percent of the total exports.
