The award-winning Holocaust documentary UnBroken is scheduled to hold its Czech premiere at Prague’s Edison Filmhub on Friday, September 25. The film’s director, producer, and writer, Beth Lane, is expected to attend the screening.
The documentary chronicles the survival of Beth Lane’s mother, Ginger Lane, and her six siblings during the Holocaust. The seven children were hidden for two years on a farm in Brandenburg, located approximately 60 kilometers east of Berlin, by German farmers Paula and Arthur Schmidt. Following the war, the siblings emigrated to the United States in 1946. They are believed to be the only known family of seven Jewish siblings to have survived the Holocaust and emigrated together as a unit.
Ginger Lane, now 86, is one of two surviving members of the family. Paula and Arthur Schmidt were recognized by Yad Vashem as Righteous Among the Nations, an honor bestowed upon non-Jews who risked their lives to protect Jewish people during the Holocaust.
The film screening coincides with the opening of a new exhibition titled Rescuers of Children at the National Pedagogical Museum. The exhibition, which features the story of the Schmidt family, examines the experiences of those who provided refuge to children during the war.
