Norwegian People’s Aid rejects new US funding terms, at huge cost

**Norwegian People’s Aid to cut staff following rejection of new US funding terms**

Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA), one of Norway’s largest humanitarian organizations, has announced it will face significant funding losses and subsequent staff reductions after refusing to comply with new requirements imposed by the United States Department of State.

The organization confirmed that it will be forced to lay off hundreds of foreign aid workers as a result of the decision.

The funding shortfall stems from NPA’s refusal to accept new restrictions set by the U.S. government regarding programs that promote equality. While specific details of the policy shift were not fully disclosed, the organization indicated that the new terms were incompatible with its operational mandates.

NPA, which operates globally in mine clearance, humanitarian disarmament, and development aid, has not yet provided a detailed timeline for the staff reductions or specified which regions will be most affected by the loss of U.S. financial support.
