Adonai Dieu has claimed that he is the holder of Trinidad and Tobago’s approximately $24 million Lotto Plus winning ticket, saying he is already preparing for the major financial decisions that could come with his newfound fortune.
Dieu made the claim in a video posted to his Instagram account, where he spoke about coming to terms with the prospect of suddenly having millions of dollars at his disposal.
According to Dieu, he expects to receive the money by midweek and is already considering what his next moves should be.
“It’s a new feeling,” Dieu said as he reflected on the situation and the responsibility he now claims to face.
Among the pressing matters on his agenda are property purchases and the considerably more delicate task of determining which members of his family will benefit from the alleged windfall.
Dieu suggested that managing the money could become an exercise in careful financial allocation, humorously comparing his new responsibilities to those of a government tasked with deciding how state resources should be distributed.
His claim comes as Trinidad and Tobago continues to react to the major Lotto Plus jackpot being hit in Saturday’s draw.
The winning numbers for the August 22 draw were 4, 9, 13, 28 and 29, with Powerball 8.
The real $24 million winning ticket was purchased via Quick Pick in El Dorado, Tunapuna, with one winner recorded. The winner has not yet been publicly identified.
Dieu has not presented the winning ticket in the video, nor has he been officially identified by the National Lotteries Control Board as the jackpot winner.
That small detail, however, has apparently not prevented him from beginning preparations for life with $24 million.
Large Lotto jackpots have traditionally generated intense public discussion in Trinidad and Tobago, including recurring jokes, suspicions and claims on social media about who ultimately collects the money. Some members of the public have even suggested that the lottery is “rigged” or that the government somehow benefits from major jackpots.
There is no established evidence supporting claims that the Lotto Plus draw is rigged, and such comments remain part of the public speculation and humour that frequently surrounds major lottery wins.
For Dieu, meanwhile, the more immediate concern appears to be preparing for his supposed transformation into a multimillionaire.
Whether the winning ticket is actually sitting somewhere in his possession remains another matter entirely.
Until the country’s newest Lotto millionaire comes forward, however, Dieu appears quite prepared to carry the burden of being $24 million richer.
