Education Unions Advocate for Reintroduction of Old LBO System and B-Direction to President Simons

PARAMARIBO – Various education unions, including the Federation of Organizations of Teachers in Suriname (FOLS), the Union of Teachers in Technical Education (BLTO), and BvL/ALS, met with President Jennifer Simons on Friday. During the meeting, the unions discussed the challenges within vocational education and advocated for the reintroduction of old learning systems, specifically the old LBO system and B-direction.

The unions, representing teachers in Suriname, presented their concerns to President Simons, highlighting the need for reform in the current education system. According to the unions, the reintroduction of the old LBO system and B-direction would address some of the existing challenges in vocational education.

The details of the discussion and the president’s response have not been disclosed. The education unions’ proposal aims to improve the quality of education in Suriname by revisiting previous systems that were in place.
